We believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their confidence.

2. Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 10 September 2026

These Terms & Conditions apply to tuition provided by Bright Star Learning. By booking or continuing with paid tuition, the customer agrees to these Terms & Conditions. For students under 18, tuition must be arranged by a parent or legal guardian. Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to remove or restrict any legal rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

2.1 Booking Tuition

All tuition must be booked directly with Bright Star Learning. For students under 18, a parent or legal guardian must arrange and agree to the tuition. For adult students, the student may arrange tuition directly.

Before tuition begins, Bright Star Learning may request information including:

  • Student name
  • Age/year group
  • Subject
  • Current level, where known
  • Examination board, where relevant
  • Learning goals
  • Relevant educational information
  • Relevant learning needs

This information allows lessons to be appropriately planned.

2.2 Free 45-Minute Trial Lesson

Bright Star Learning offers one free 45-minute trial lesson per new student. The trial lesson allows the student and, where applicable, their parent/guardian to:

  • Meet the tutor
  • Experience a Bright Star Learning lesson
  • Discuss learning needs
  • Identify strengths and areas for development
  • Discuss academic goals
  • Consider whether regular tuition would be suitable

There is no obligation to continue with paid tuition following the trial. Trial lessons are subject to availability. One free trial is available per student. Bright Star Learning reserves the right to decline duplicate trial bookings made using different contact details.

2.3 Regular Tuition

Regular lessons are normally 60 minutes unless another duration has been agreed. Lessons are planned according to the student's age, educational stage, subject, curriculum, current level, learning goals and areas for development.

Resources may include: worksheets, presentations, quizzes, past examination papers, examination-style questions, reading materials, writing tasks, homework, independent activities and digital learning resources.

2.4 Academic Results

Bright Star Learning aims to support students in making academic progress. However, academic results cannot be guaranteed. A student's progress may depend on a range of factors, including attendance, participation, independent study, completion of homework, starting ability, school teaching, examination conditions, individual learning needs, and the amount and consistency of tuition.

Bright Star Learning will provide appropriate support and feedback but cannot guarantee a particular grade, examination result or academic outcome.

2.5 Lesson Availability

Lesson times are agreed between Bright Star Learning and the student or parent/guardian. Lesson availability may change depending on tutor availability, school holidays, examination periods, personal circumstances, or changes to the tutoring timetable. Where a regular lesson slot is agreed, Bright Star Learning will make reasonable efforts to maintain that slot.

2.6 Monthly Payments in Advance

Bright Star Learning operates on a monthly payment-in-advance basis. At the beginning of each month, the parent/guardian or adult student will receive an invoice covering the tuition scheduled for that month. Payment must be made by the payment deadline stated on the invoice and before the first scheduled lesson of the relevant month, unless an alternative arrangement has been agreed in advance.

The monthly invoice will normally include: the student's name, the relevant month, scheduled lesson dates, subject(s), lesson duration, number of lessons, total amount due, payment deadline and payment instructions.

Once payment has been received, the student's scheduled lessons for that month will be confirmed. Bright Star Learning reserves the right to withhold or pause future lessons where the monthly invoice has not been paid by the agreed deadline. If a parent/guardian or adult student anticipates difficulty making a payment by the stated deadline, they should contact Bright Star Learning as soon as possible so that the situation can be discussed.

2.7 Changes to Scheduled Lessons Within a Paid Month

Where a lesson is cancelled or rescheduled in accordance with the Cancellation, Rescheduling & Refund Policy, the lesson may be rearranged within the tutor's availability. Where a lesson cannot reasonably be rescheduled, Bright Star Learning may provide an appropriate lesson credit or refund, depending on the circumstances and the applicable cancellation terms.

Payment in advance does not remove the customer's rights under applicable UK consumer law. Any lessons cancelled by Bright Star Learning and not subsequently provided will not be charged to the customer.

2.8 Monthly Tuition & Ongoing Bookings

Monthly tuition does not create an obligation to continue indefinitely. Parents/guardians or adult students may request to end regular tuition by providing the notice specified in the Cancellation, Rescheduling & Refund Policy. Where a student wishes to stop tuition, any lessons already provided or appropriately chargeable within the relevant notice period may remain payable. Bright Star Learning will confirm the student's final scheduled lessons and any outstanding balance where applicable.

2.9 Lesson Packages

Where a customer purchases a package of lessons, the number of lessons included and any applicable package conditions will be communicated before payment. Package lessons should normally be used within the period specified at the time of purchase, where an expiry period applies. Unused lessons are not automatically refundable unless required by law or otherwise agreed. Any package-specific terms will be communicated before the package is purchased.

2.10 Sibling Discount

Bright Star Learning offers a 10% discount on eligible tuition for the second sibling where two or more siblings receive tuition. The discount applies to the second child's eligible tuition unless otherwise agreed. Sibling discounts cannot normally be combined with other promotional discounts. Bright Star Learning reserves the right to amend or withdraw promotional discounts for future bookings.

2.11 Referral Scheme

Bright Star Learning may operate a referral scheme for existing customers. Where the referral scheme is active:

  1. An existing customer refers a new student.
  2. The new student identifies the referring customer when making their enquiry.
  3. The new student completes their free trial.
  4. The new student subsequently completes their first four paid lessons.
  5. The referring customer receives a £5 credit towards future tuition.

Where stated in the current referral offer, the new customer may also receive a £5 credit. Referral credits cannot normally be exchanged for cash, cannot be transferred, cannot normally be claimed retrospectively, apply only to genuine new customers, and may not be combined with certain promotional offers. Bright Star Learning reserves the right to amend or withdraw the referral scheme.

2.12 Online Learning

All Bright Star Learning tuition is delivered online. Students are responsible for having a suitable device, a reliable internet connection, access to the agreed lesson platform, any required books or learning materials, and a suitable environment in which to participate.

Bright Star Learning is not responsible for technical problems caused by the student's device, internet connection or home environment. Where technical problems are caused by Bright Star Learning or the tutor, reasonable steps will be taken to resolve the issue and make up any significant lost tuition time where appropriate.

2.13 Tutor Availability & Changes

If Bright Star Learning needs to change a lesson, the customer will be informed as soon as reasonably possible. Where the tutor needs to cancel a lesson, the lesson will be rescheduled where possible. A customer will not be charged for a lesson cancelled by Bright Star Learning that is not subsequently provided.

2.14 Changes to These Terms

Bright Star Learning may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. The latest version will be made available to customers. Changes will not remove rights that customers have already acquired.

3. Cancellation, Rescheduling & Refund Policy

Bright Star Learning understands that plans can change and that illness and unexpected circumstances can occur. We ask customers to provide as much notice as reasonably possible.

3.1 Cancelling or Rescheduling a Lesson

If you need to cancel or move a lesson, please contact Bright Star Learning as soon as possible.

24 hours or more notice: the customer may normally reschedule the lesson (subject to availability) or receive an appropriate lesson credit. There will normally be no cancellation charge.

3.2 Less Than 24 Hours' Notice

Where less than 24 hours' notice is provided, the lesson may remain chargeable because the lesson time has been reserved specifically for the student. However, Bright Star Learning recognises that genuine emergencies and unexpected circumstances can occur. Requests relating to circumstances such as sudden illness, family emergencies, serious unforeseen circumstances or significant technical problems will be considered reasonably and on a case-by-case basis.

3.3 Student Illness

If a student becomes unwell, the parent/guardian or adult student should notify Bright Star Learning as soon as possible. Students should not attend an online lesson if they are too unwell to participate appropriately. Where reasonable and subject to availability, the lesson may be rescheduled. Sudden illness reported shortly before a lesson will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

3.4 Tutor Illness

If the tutor is unable to teach because of illness or an unexpected circumstance, the customer will be informed as soon as reasonably possible, the lesson will be rescheduled where possible, and a suitable lesson credit or refund will be provided where appropriate. Customers will not be charged for tuition that Bright Star Learning cancels and does not provide.

3.5 No-Shows

If a student does not attend a scheduled lesson and no cancellation or rescheduling request has been received, the lesson may be treated as a missed lesson and may remain chargeable. For students under 18, parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring that the student is aware of their scheduled lesson.

3.6 Lateness

Lessons begin and finish at the agreed time. If a student joins late, the lesson will normally still finish at the originally scheduled time. For example: scheduled lesson 5:00pm–6:00pm, student joins 5:15pm, lesson finishes 6:00pm. This ensures that other students' scheduled lessons are not affected. Where the tutor is responsible for the delay, reasonable steps will be taken to make up the lost time.

3.7 Technical Problems

If the student's internet connection, device or home technology prevents the lesson from taking place, the lesson may remain chargeable depending on the circumstances. The student or parent/guardian should contact Bright Star Learning as soon as possible if a technical problem occurs. Where the problem is caused by Bright Star Learning's technology, reasonable steps will be taken to reschedule or make up significant lost tuition time.

3.8 Refunds

Refund requests will be considered in accordance with these Terms & Conditions, the circumstances of the booking, any applicable consumer rights and applicable UK law. Nothing in this policy is intended to remove statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where tuition is booked online, customers may have statutory cancellation rights in certain circumstances. The application of those rights can depend on how the service was booked and when tuition begins.

4. Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy

Designated Safeguarding Lead: Khadijah Ghori · Email: Brightstar2learn@gmail.com · Last updated: 10 September 2026

Bright Star Learning is committed to promoting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people who receive tuition. This policy applies specifically to students under the age of 18. Adult students are not subject to child safeguarding procedures, although Bright Star Learning maintains appropriate professional boundaries and a safe learning environment for all students.

Bright Star Learning follows relevant Department for Education guidance for out-of-school settings and private tuition.

4.1 Our Commitment

The safety and wellbeing of students is a priority. Bright Star Learning aims to provide a safe online learning environment, maintain appropriate professional boundaries, take safeguarding concerns seriously, respond appropriately to disclosures, maintain appropriate safeguarding records, seek advice or make referrals where necessary, and cooperate with relevant safeguarding authorities.

The Department for Education's current guidance specifically includes private tuition within out-of-school settings and identifies safeguarding and child protection as key areas providers should have arrangements for.

4.2 Designated Safeguarding Lead

The Designated Safeguarding Lead for Bright Star Learning is Khadijah Ghori (Brightstar2learn@gmail.com), responsible for responding to safeguarding concerns, maintaining appropriate safeguarding records, reviewing safeguarding procedures, seeking appropriate advice, making referrals where necessary, and keeping safeguarding knowledge and procedures under review.

4.3 Professional Boundaries

Bright Star Learning maintains appropriate professional boundaries between the tutor and students. For students under 18: communication should normally take place through the parent/guardian or approved Bright Star Learning communication channels; students should not be encouraged to communicate with the tutor through personal social-media accounts; personal relationships between tutor and student are not appropriate; communication should remain relevant to tuition and safeguarding; and inappropriate, sexual, threatening, discriminatory or abusive communication will not be tolerated.

4.4 Online Lessons

All tuition is delivered online. Parents/guardians will be informed of the scheduled lesson time, the agreed online platform, and the nature of the tuition. For younger students, parents/guardians are encouraged to remain available during lessons and may supervise online tuition where appropriate. Students should participate from an appropriate environment. The DfE's current parent guidance notes that parents may wish to supervise one-to-one private tuition.

4.5 Online Safety

Students must not: share inappropriate images or content; display inappropriate material during lessons; attempt to access another person's account; share passwords; record or distribute lessons without permission; or use the lesson to communicate inappropriately with others. Bright Star Learning will take reasonable steps to maintain an appropriate online learning environment.

4.6 Safeguarding Concerns

A safeguarding concern may arise if there is reason to believe that a child is being harmed, is at risk of harm, is experiencing abuse or neglect, has disclosed something concerning, may be unsafe online or offline, or is experiencing serious exploitation or inappropriate behaviour. A concern does not need to be proven before it is taken seriously.

4.7 If a Student Makes a Disclosure

If a student tells the tutor something that raises a safeguarding concern, the tutor will:

  1. Listen calmly.
  2. Take the student seriously.
  3. Avoid making promises of secrecy.
  4. Avoid leading or suggestive questions.
  5. Record relevant information accurately.
  6. Consider the appropriate safeguarding response.
  7. Seek appropriate advice or make a referral where necessary.

4.8 Confidentiality

Bright Star Learning respects students' privacy. However, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed where information indicates that a child may be at risk of harm or where disclosure is necessary to protect the student or comply with a legal obligation. Information may therefore need to be shared with a parent/guardian, safeguarding professional, local authority, police or another appropriate authority where necessary.

4.9 Immediate Danger

If a student appears to be in immediate danger, appropriate emergency or safeguarding services may be contacted. Parents/guardians will be informed where appropriate and where doing so would not increase the risk to the child.

4.10 DBS Check

Bright Star Learning is committed to maintaining appropriate safeguarding arrangements for students under the age of 18. Khadijah Ghori holds a valid Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Evidence of the DBS check can be made available to a parent or guardian where reasonably requested and appropriate, subject to any applicable requirements relating to the disclosure and handling of personal information. The DBS check supports Bright Star Learning's commitment to maintaining a safe and professional environment for students. The existence of a DBS check does not replace Bright Star Learning's wider safeguarding responsibilities, policies and procedures.

4.11 Safeguarding Records

Safeguarding records will be kept securely and separately from routine academic records where appropriate. Access will be limited to those who need the information for safeguarding, legal or professional reasons.

4.12 Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed regularly and whenever relevant guidance or circumstances change.

6.5 Safeguarding Complaints

If a complaint involves a safeguarding concern, it will be handled under the Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy. Safeguarding concerns will not be delayed simply because a complaint is also being made.

6.6 Respectful Communication

Bright Star Learning is committed to treating customers respectfully and expects the same in return. Abusive, threatening, discriminatory or intimidating communication will not be tolerated. Where communication becomes inappropriate, Bright Star Learning may restrict communication to written correspondence or take other reasonable steps to protect the tutor and maintain a professional service.

7. Student Conduct & Online Learning Policy

Bright Star Learning aims to create an online learning environment where students feel comfortable, respected and confident. Students are expected to:

7.1 Be Respectful

7.2 Be Ready to Learn

7.3 Ask Questions

Students are encouraged to ask questions whenever they do not understand something. There is no expectation that students should know everything immediately.

7.4 Try Their Best

Students are expected to make a reasonable effort during lessons. Mistakes are a normal part of learning.

7.5 Complete Agreed Work

Where homework or independent work is provided, students are encouraged to complete it before the next lesson. Homework may be used to assess understanding and identify areas requiring further support.

7.6 Use Technology Appropriately

Students must not share inappropriate content, record lessons without permission, screenshot or distribute lesson materials inappropriately, attempt to access another person's accounts, or use the lesson for inappropriate or unrelated activities.

8. Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

Parents and guardians play an important role in helping tuition succeed.

8.1 Providing Accurate Information

Parents/guardians should inform Bright Star Learning if any relevant information changes.

8.2 Access to Online Lessons

Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring that their child has a suitable device, internet access, access to the agreed online platform, relevant learning materials, and a suitable learning environment.

8.3 Younger Students

For younger students, parents/guardians are encouraged to remain available during online tuition and may supervise the lesson where appropriate. The DfE's current guidance recognises that parents may wish to supervise one-to-one private tuition.
